Our Story

In 2018, the Northwest Dawah Foundation was born from a conversation among Muslim brothers at the Islamic Center of Portland – Masjed As-Saber one summer evening after Salah. As we discussed the lack of Dawah initiatives in Oregon, we felt a deep responsibility to actively share the message of Islam within our community. Driven by this shared sense of purpose, we quickly set up our first Dawah table that same weekend at the Portland Saturday Market, engaging with non-Muslims about Islam. What began as a single effort soon blossomed into regular outreach activities throughout Downtown Portland.

As our efforts grew, so did our awareness of the need for more support and resources. Initially, we partnered with a national Dawah organization, serving as their Oregon chapter. However, after a year, we recognized that our focus on serving the Pacific Northwest would be better realized through an independent organization dedicated to our local community. This realization led to the establishment of the Northwest Dawah Foundation, with a mission to serve the people of Oregon and Southwest Washington.

Since our inception, we have expanded our programs and continuously refined our approach to sharing the message of Islam with both Muslims and non-Muslims. Our initiatives now include outreach to incarcerated Muslims, helping them reconnect with their faith, and mentorship programs for new Muslims. We also provide Muslim chaplaincy services in hospitals, correctional facilities, and within our local community. In addition, we organize and support activities for Muslim youth, converts, and sisters, fostering a sense of belonging and spiritual growth.

Our commitment to Dawah remains at the heart of our work. We operate Dawah tables across Oregon and Southwest Washington, and we offer training and consultation to support similar efforts in other communities. We have had the privilege of sharing our experiences and insights with newly established Dawah organizations in other states, and we continue to be a valuable resource for various Muslim community organizations, masajid, as well as government agencies and institutions seeking guidance on serving Muslim communities.

As we continue to grow, our focus remains on empowering our local community to engage in meaningful Dawah activities and deepen their connection to Islam.
